Noise and Ruckus

A medley of sounds from all known corners of space and time, Noise and Ruckus is guaranteed to get your day going with heightened emotions and a smile on your face, or your money back. This isn't a music review site; this is where I post the songs I love.

Updated daily... unless I'm busy. If you like the music, subscribe to the feed by clicking the RSS link to the right and get your morning (and perhaps evening!) fix.

You can find me elsewhere on the Interwebs too. All things me centralise on euphoricllama.com and noodlesandwich.com. Check 'em out.

The site design looks crap in Internet Explorer 6 and below, as well as some other browsers. The reason for this is that Internet Explorer 6 is not only six years old, but was outdated even before it was released. As a web developer, I test my websites on every browser I can find. However, I don't fix them for Internet Explorer unless I'm being paid - it's just not worth the effort. If the theme bugs you, you have two choices: leave, or get a real web browser.

If you've disabled stylesheets or are using a text-only browser... what the hell is wrong with you?

Luca Turilli - Mystic And Divine

Dave introduced me to this great songwriter today. Not entirely sure he’s my favourite singer, but he definitely fills all the checkboxes. Fantasy? Yup. Metal? Yup. Power metal? Double yup. Violin? Hell yes.

Epic? Damn straight.

Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah

Does anyone actually watch the Eurovision song contest? I hope not. So far, we’ve had two great songs, the better by far being We Are The Winners (which I think I’ve posted up here before).

Oh, and this one. Which won that particular year, I believe.

Firefly - Hero of Canton

I realise this is almost a cult thing and no one but me will have ever have heard of (or care about) this song but me. That said, it’s an awesome song if you know who Jayne is. You don’t? Go watch Firefly. This episode is called Jaynestown, and it’s quite possibly my favourite.

My favourite episode of my favourite TV show. Can’t ask for better than that, can ye?

Wir Sind Helden - Nur ein Wort

I’m annoyed with Smaran at the moment because he found this track before me, which is why I initally resisted posting it up. Welp, I can’t any longer - I love it. It’s like Travis’ Selfish Jean, but German and awesomely upbeat.

As a side note, if this site looks like shit, it’s because the images are hosted on euphoricllama.com and Bluehost are taking their sweet time doing maintenance on the server. Site’s been down for a day… bastards.

Colin Hay - Overkill

I’m in a Scrubs mood today. Again. It’s probably because they have so many awesome soft rock songs… guess that’s what happens when you’re under budget and need to get some money to the RIAA, stat.

I first enjoyed this song because of the context in the episode, but I’m listening to it right now without watching and it’s just as good. Go figure.

Basshunter - Boten Anna

After the sickening success of Now You’re Gone in the UK, I feel it’s only right that the song that made it possible be recognised. And while this is a pretty small blog as they go, I reckon every little helps.

Of course, it’s also important to recognise that this one’s far, far better than the English crap our favourite geek DJ came up with to break into the Top 40.

Gorillaz - Fire Coming Out Of The Monkeys Head

I can’t believe I haven’t posted this song before now. Best story/song combo ever, and I’ve just been told by Derek the narrator is William Shatner. How random.

Placebo and Pixies - Where is my Mind?

Y’know, this obviously doesn’t get enough alternative rock. I know this because when I saw a link to this song on Twitter and clicked it, I heard a track I hadn’t heard in far too long. So I figured, hell, why not?

Go listen.

Paramore - Misery Business

I thought Paramore were overhyped until I saw this video. Here’s your proof that pop-punk singers can sing. No synths, no electronics, no lip-syncing, no digitising… just a girl and her friends with a couple of guitars.

They’re headlining Give It A Name on Saturday 10th. Must go.

Jimmy Eat World - Sweetness

Thank you so much, Jason, for making me listen to this song.
